Dear Sir or Madam,

As a member of a local community group or amenity society, I am contacting you to ask some questions about your group. I set up a new public relations company, Cascade Communications, at the start of this year. I specialise in public consultation and have worked closely with a large number of groups particularly in relation to planning applications.

When I started work in this industry, it was usually the case that consultation was regarded as a ‘tick box’ exercise with minimum interaction often the norm. Based on my experience, I have noticed two changes: the general public are far more engaged and informed than they were and secondly, the way we communicate has changed enormously too with accessibility to the internet and social media. The promotion of the idea of ‘localism’ during the last General Election has led to local groups becoming increasingly recognised as a part of the planning process.

Having set up Cascade with a desire to do things differently, it is hugely important to me that we develop a good reputation in our field. In order to do this, I would like to understand what those on the receiving end of consultations regard as good and bad so that we can develop a model of best practice and help set the standard within our industry. Please click on this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CommunityGroupQuestionnaire which will take you to our survey which we are sending out to over 100 local groups all over London. It should take no more than about 10 minutes to complete and your input will help us to set the standard and principles for how consultation should be carried out. I am happy to share the results with you which you may find interesting from your own perspective too.

Please contact me if you have any questions on 020 7868 5530.

Yours sincerely,
