Liveable Crouch End - shared e-scooters? “Bird Chargers” and “Lime Juicers”

If the Liveable Crouch End project is to count itself truly successful it must lay the foundations for the future. This Guardian article on e-scooters predicts a law change which we might do well to take note of.

Will we get an e-scooter shop?

It'll be useful as the remaining cycle shop (Evans) has just announced it's packing up. Just in time for the Liveable Neighbourhoods cycling active travel pushbike push.

"Hundreds of e-bikes are to be rolled out in Islington and positione...

Lime has an existing fleet of more than 1,000 bikes stationed across Brent and Ealing, which were introduced in December."

Haringey is taking a more cautious approach, and, as far as I know, has no bike hire schemes at all. This may well be the correct approach, to go directly from having none of these new fangled bike hire schemes , to having no bike hire schemes because they are more trouble than they are worth. Possibly a course of masterly inaction.

I'm in Warsaw at the moment where there is a modest supply of Lime e-scooters. From what I've seen here, this image does not represent a typical set of users. Mainly I've seen teenagers, and maybe early 20-somethings using these machines, not for commuting or nipping down to the shops, but just for ripping it up. Warsaw's wide pavements, plentiful cycle paths and extensive riverside pavement are perfect for it.  Which makes me wonder about the sustainability of the fad, when young people's fancies turn lightly to thoughts of the next big thing.
