Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
The Crouch End, Hornsey and Stroud Green Area Forum and Committee will take place this Monday evening 26th September in the Hornsey Library from 6:30pm.
I have to say it looks as though the team responsible for running it are making a pretty determined effort to get people there and participating, an effort I can only applaud.
There used to be Area Assemblies but they had no real power - chaired by a councillor they were an opportunity for residents to ask questions of members and officers of the council. But no action points.
So the Area Forum and Committee was invented. The Forum sort of replaces the Assembly, except the topics raised by the Forum get carried forward to the Committee. This is a properly constituted committee of the council, with the powers that implies. So some credit to Haringey then for instituting this new form of local democracy.
Today I received through the post a complete pack, made up of an invitation to the meeting, an agenda, and the minutes of the previous committee (the Forum is not minuted). I don't know how many other residents got this pack, but enough I hope to encourage some turn out. So more credit to Haringey for this effort.
Also today I received through email an invitation from the chair of the committee to attend the meeting. This is a LibDem thing, to make sure of some sort of turn out. Well done the LibDems.
I'd urge anyone to pitch up and take part. The LibDem invitation reads:
