Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
According to new budget proposals discussed at the last Haringey Cabinet meeting, the free weekly collection of green waste is to end from April 2017. Instead you will need to opt-in for green waste collection, for which there will be an annual fee of £75. No doubt the Council will tell us the details when we receive our council tax demand for next year.
On council tax, the proposal is to freeze it, but there will be a 3% surcharge to pay for for adult social care.
I'm guessing of course, but perhaps it's your "hollow laugh" that's a serious problem our Council "leaders" don't understand.
By which I mean that if we trusted them to measure - honestly and rigorously - the impact of the new charges then we might be open to having our minds changed.
"Look guys", they might say in six months, "we know you were sceptical and in truth, some of us were also worried. So we've been trying as hard as we can to keep tabs on the levels and patterns of green waste collection and of litter and dumping generally. Including the impact of closing the Reuse & Recycling Centre in Park View Road N17.
"Well the news is that things are no worse than before. Which, as we all know, really isn't good enough!
"But we're on it and we think that, in another six months, the figures will be moving significantly in the right direction. And not just figures, but what you observe on the streets, in the parks and elsewhere."
Now, I don't know about you, Jane. But personally I no longer have much trust and confidence in the messages put out by the Council and its Comms Unit. Nor even some of the upbeat comments I've heard from fellow Labour Party members. Who are, I'm certain, honest people and want to see improvement. Which seems to be what they're told and what they dutifully pass on. Even if their own eyes may sometimes give them a different picture.

The Lib Dems The Lib Dems persist in pursuing this , apparently un-implement-able policy. Well done the lib dems. If that's a bird of paradise in your logo, may it not fly up your collective noses, but rather feel entirely at home in Haringey.
Who knows about this extension of the green waste collection till the end of November?
Has there been any publicity? Any leaflets in homes? Is it on the website? Have I missed the announcement? Does it cover the whole borough?
The green waste bags left on corners near our home seem to suggest the answers may be 'No'.
Can the Kober regime get anything right?
Only Theresa May's Government seems to have an anti-Midas touch like this.
