Event Description

Area forum - a chance to reflect

Friday 2 September 2011
Local people in Haringey are invited to join together to reflect on the recent riots and the fantastic community response to the disturbances.

The Tottenham and Seven Sisters Area Forum on Tuesday, September 6, will offer those affected in any way by the troubles the chance to share their thoughts.

It will also be an opportunity to discuss what happened, why it happened, and the best way forward for Tottenham as residents, businesses and the council strive to build a brighter future for the area.

Representatives from the council and the police will be on hand at the meeting at Tottenham Green Leisure Centre to answer questions and listen to what local people have to say.

Haringey Council Leader Claire Kober said:

“We want to give people the chance to talk openly about the impact of the disturbances, and the council is eager to listen to local people and to take their opinions on board so that we are able to move forward together.

“I hope that anyone who has been affected by the disturbances in Tottenham will take the chance to come along to the meeting.”

The forum will also offer a chance to talk about antisocial behaviour and the Tottenham and Seven Sisters Area Committee Plan.

Officers from the council’s Streetscene team and the local police Safer Neighbourhoods Team will be on hand before the forum from 6-6.30pm to discuss individual concerns with residents.

The forum will be followed by the more formal Area Committee meeting, where local ward councillors will consider reports on:

Making the Difference funding
Area profile
Additional funding for pothole repairs
How best to use contributions received to improve the local area during the development of Tottenham Town Hall
The Area Forum will run from 6.30pm to 7.50pm, followed by the Area Committee from 8pm to 9.30pm in the Gold Room, Tottenham Green Leisure Centre, Philip Lane, N15.
