Liveable Crouch End - the privileged few have got on my tits

So I've put this on FacebookI attended a number of the Stakeholder meetings which preceded this trial and covered wider issues of the Liveable Crouch End project. The consultants went to a lot of trouble to identify local residents groups, business associations, schools, community centres, etc, and to invite representatives. FEC sent a rep to one meeting. One of the issues raised was that traffic would simply be displaced from well-off, middle class Crouch End to poorer nearby areas, which , it…See More

Does the right hand know what the right hand is doing? Liveable Crouch End

In my recent meeting with Cllr Hearn I asked if Liveable Crouch End changes were being co-ordinated. I was assured that they were. In order to cause maximum havoc perhaps. National Power have today parked a number of their vans, but done very little work, outside North Point. The alternate one way traffic system has caused tailbacks for miles, the more so because of the closure of Middle Lane.Someone should wag a finger at whoever issued permit number 30034828070…See More

Looks like the trial road closures are going ahead @HaringeyLiving @luke_harrison

These two pronged thingies are cropping up all round the area, and it looks to me as though they will count the vehicle movements in the area, and maybe even figure out how fast they are going. This will feed in to an assessment of the trial road closures (mainly Middle Lane) planned for next week and the week after.…See More

Suddenly everyone's a pole vault coach

I've spent a good part of the last three weeks competing in or travelling to or being present athletics at events designated with the title "World". I'm reasonably content with my results, except for the bits I'm not happy with. And this note is reflecting on the not quite so good bits, . . . . . And I have an opinion, about how much Heathside should help me, its other multi-eventers and athletes in general for the good of the SAL team.

It has taken me almost 10 years to…

I've had two very good weeks of interesting all-round athletics overseas. Spoiler alert - this report is very self centred and self congratulatory. Read on at your own peril.

On the weekend of the 25/26th August I went to Delft for the World Icosathlon Championships. Lots of reasons for doing this - on 24th August I was the world champion and world record holder, but the chances were that by 27th I would no longer be either.  One reason for going was to wave goodbye to my titles in…

. . where few my age have gone before.

Every so often something happens in my life which inspires me. Last weekend such a thing happened. I took part in, and did tolerably well at, an icosathlon (from the Greek icos = 20, athlon = contest). Like decathlon, you know, Daley Thompson in the Olympics, all those years ago,  only this is 20 events. Unfortunately for the world what this inspires me to is vanity and dire prose.

So what has inspired me.

1) Camarederie - two…

This is a blog, and since one of the things I know well and care about a lot is me, I feel entitled to write on the subject. Perhaps my researches might help someone else.

But, to start with a digression, (and a co-ordinating conjunction), I don't share David Cameron's taste for seven day a week General…

I think this is a good welcome.  I can't think of anything obvious it needs or doesn't need at the moment.  The terms of service are clear and reasonable too - was that on before or is it a new addition?

Thanks Adrian

Our logo was designed for free by a local graphic designer/ book cover artist.

I get a suprising amount of traffic from a one line entry on Wikipedia. We were fortunate to be able to build on some existing community infrastructure when we set up at the end of last summer - the community association circulated info via both e-mail and printed newsletters which helped ... but sign-ups do seem to have stalled.

I do a weekly update (via broadcast message) which seems to generate a bit of a flurry of activity. But I am keen to recruit more members.

I do like the N8 related puns for your sections - very smart idea.

If you fancy meeting up for a coffee (or a beer) sometime to chat about Hyperlocal Websites etc let me know

Good Luck

Richard
