Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
Anyone who’s been passing through the top of Park Road recently will know that the council has been working on improving the pavement on the Health Centre side. Happily this is now complete (after weeks of disruption), and looks rather nice in my opinion.
Haringay Council are, however, still working on…Continue

When we moved to this particular corner of North London last January, I set out to do The Crouch End Knowledge, i.e. visit all pubs, bars and cafes in the N8 area and report back to you. But, due to some other important business (such as the…Continue
I took part in an aquathlon yesterday morning at Park Road Pool. Aquathlon is a horrible word - where to put the emphasis? - but what it means is swimming and running. I've never tried to combine these disciplines before so I took part in the Novice category. 2 lengths of the Lido and 1km run. My running is OK but my swimming is poor - I'm starting improver lessons at…Continue

Before the 2012 Games, the greatest worry for the organisers and ordinary Londoners was transport. How would the…Continue
You must know by now how I feel about The Olympics. I have severe Olympic fever already and so when I saw the torch relay was coming quite close to us, I immediately decided to walk to Prior Road to see it. The atmosphere was fantastic - the road was lined two or three deep as far as the eye could see. People were cheering anything that went past: sponsors buses, policemen on bikes and motorbikes, relay staff jogging, waving flags or unicycling……Continue

Our new place in Crouch End, north London, is surrounded by all sorts of sports clubs and fields. There's tennis, football and cricket pitches galore.
This afternoon, when the Englishman and I went for a walk with the terrier, we counted no fewer than six - six - cricket matches going on at the same time.…

I comprehensively failed the off-road module of my motor cycle test this morning, this for the second time. The first time was due to a lack of paper work. I had been expecting a replacement certificate through the post, but it did not turn up until the day after the test so I was not even allowed to start taking it.
This off-road module is the third in a series if 4 tests it is now necessary to take in order to get a motor cycle licence. The first is the Compulsory Basic Training…Continue

Hi I am owner of Kiss the sky bar and was very happy with OpinioN8 review of our quiz so I thought I would sign up to the website. Just to let you know we have introduced a new "challenge round" during the break, in which one member of each team has a minute to fill in as many answers as they can on a particular subject. This is worth a bonus 5 points and has been great fun so far.

My life has changed a bit recently. I now have a modest income from what seems to be a fully funded pension scheme, and very few domestic commitments. So I could, for example, ring up Alpine Elements on Saturday and ask them if they have any ski-ing weeks starting on Sunday they haven't sold yet. I could then conduct a Dutch auction until the price came down to what I was willing to pay. I almost wish I hadn't thought of that - I…Continue
The thing that goes wrong with my day most often is that I allow myself to be distracted. Today I have a very clear to do list. There's quite a lot I must get done by about 4 this afternoon. The to do list is clear, concise and prioritised. But have I done anything on it - have I be blowed. No, I looked in my email inbox, and from there one inconsequential thing just leads to another, and now look where I've ended up. Talking out loud to a keyboard! I'm almost certainly not going to do…Continue
I've been going to the car mechanics at MEB on Tottenham Lane (opposite the YMCA) for years. The guys in there are friendly, professional and very good at servicing and fixing my aging car. In fact the customer service in there is so good even my wife likes taking her car there..! - if that doesn't sound too sexist - but seriously, she likes the fact that they don't talk down to her and show her the respect she deserves as a paying customer when she doesn't know if her 'big-end' has gone or…Continue
I've been checking my blood pressure (bp). I own one of those little machines you can have at home which claims to measure bp and pulse rate, and I chanced to find it again recently. I've got a set of scales in the basement so I think I can measure my weight fairly accurately and I have a vague recollection of my height from years ago (though I am at a time of my life when I might be shrinking). What a splendid chance to combine two interests (hypochondria and computers) and create a graph…Continue
Hi I'm a mosaic artist living in Hornsey. I would like to run a weekend course in the next month or so: does anyone know of a possible venue? My flat and studio just isn't big enough.
