Why Finsbury Park Track is important to London Heathside

London Heathside was formed in the year 2000 from the merger of North London AC and Muswell Hill Runners.   The track in Finsbury Park has been used for athletics since 1936 and was updated with the modern Scotch Surface in 1996 following a fund…

"We are in drought" - apocalypse now? - but its not my fault

There a depressing number of things that raise my ire and Thames Water is now conducting a campaign to do exactly that. I've seen the full page ad in the local paper reading "We are in Drought - None of us can make it rain but we can all use less water" and apparently there are posters all over London bearing the same message.Obviously I'm enraged. This drought does not come as a shock. The prophets of global warming doom have been bleating for years about how our climate is going to change.…See More

Thames no-Water - not supplying London, where cleanliness is next to impossible

I was lying in my bath this evening reading my newspaper when I came across an article setting out that the south east of England is now officially a drought area. A statement of the perfectly blooming obvious. If it doesn't rain much you get a drought. OK. We've been looking forward to this for years, ever since our political masters stopped bleating about 'global warming' and hedged their bets by switching to 'climate change'. We are not surprised by this, the climate is changing. The South…See More

The Muswell Hill / Highgate Job - on mopeds not minis

Dear residents Recently there have been a number of burglaries that have taken place during which the suspects have made off on mopeds. Most of these have been in the N6, N10 areas but not exclusively. These have most commonly taken place between 7pm and 9pm and at addresses where it has been obvious that no one is at home. Typically a front ground floor window has been forced open or broken. Please be vigilant, keep an eye out for your property and that of your neighbours and if you see anything…See More

Transport of Delight -

I was on the W3 yesterday and spotted these plastic bags on top of the bus stop outside Queen of Tarts (end of Priory Road), with something in them and the ends all neatly tied over, in the way dog walkers do. Is the top of a bus stop recommended for disposal in this way?See More

I know a dark secluded place - not Hernado's Hideaway but Finsbury Park Track

All you see are silhouettesAnd all you hear are ath-e-lets I've just managed to get back to training at London Heathside Athletic Club after a lay off, so I got to see for myself the conditions on a winter evening when the flood lights are not working. The first thing to say is that the enthusiasm of the athletes remains undiminished. There were several groups of different ages and abilities dotted all over the place, seeing their…See More

Runtastic - a way to keep track of your running exploits

I do a bit of running - Parkruns for instance and the odd athletic event, and I'm trying out a few iphone apps to see how they get on. Here's a record of an outing using Runtastic. I was running - apparently my top speed was 49kph. Blacklists and fraudsters

Posted on January 9, 2011 at 16:16 0 Comments

This is the story of me and my blacklisted  iPhone. I never intended to become the owner of an iphone, it happened almost by chance. In August a family member found that her Samsung smart phone had a very short battery life, so she and I looked for a second hand iPhone. The going rate on eBay seemed just beyond affordable, so when a Vodafone handset came up  (tied phones are slightly cheaper) we bid for and bought it.

Now our experience of eBay has been pretty good. As a vendor I have… Continue
