Winners or losers - right or wrong - a sense of perspective

What is right and what is wrong depends a lot on your vantage point, as in the cliche "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter". A couple of things have cropped up this weekend to remind me of this. I've already bored you with a tale of an athletics match where just three of us covered all the events over the course of an afternoon, and came third out of the four teams. My perspective on…See More

Weather non-forecast

I have just watched the BBC weather forecast on the news channel. A blond woman gave the forecast for Friday. I think she said it might or might not rain or be sunny or there be a bit of a breeze or maybe thundery showers. She hedged all her bets and then said "but that might all change, its early days yet", which is what she said yesterday. So, what, I wonder are we paying them for. A forecast covering all the angles, and yet which they say may still be wrong. And they dare to predict that 2050…See More

I always look forward to the hill the second time round

The really steep hill from the lowest point of Finsbury Park to the highest. I set myself the target of getting to the dog poo bin - if I can get that far I think I might make it to the top without walking.

I enjoyed this story of an unintended consequence. Croydon council has gone to a lot of trouble to provide a wonderfully graphic mechanism to enable its polltaxpayers to express an opinion. A special interest group has used the opportunity to make a very specific request. Croydon has replied (I paraphrase)…See More

Thank you for joining up to OpinioN8.

This is its first week of operation so not much has happened yet. Please (really, please) do add a posting to a discussion forum about a burning issue, or to make a suggestion about how the site could improve.
This is a brief report on the first week of public operation of OpinioN8.

There are now 17 members (though three of them are me) and most of them look like Herman Munster carved out of a pumpkin. See the Hallowe'en event for more pumpkin pictures. pumpkin pictures.
To update your profile picture log on, click on "my page" and then on old pumpkin face.

Carol Horne has started an album for local photos and added some and I spotted an alien invasion added some and I spotted an alien invasion

So far there is only one discussion but it should have some resonance with many. I would urge everyone to read the policy and write to Haringey .

Plans for the site in the short term include:
Inviting some new members - I have a number of email lists of local people and will send out invitations very soon
Adding some sub menus to the tabs across the page to home in on key information
Perhaps re-organising the front page slightly - it seems a bit runaway at the moment

Plans for the site in the medium term include:
Write a note explaining how to import photos from FlickR
Integrate with Facebook and Twitter
Add custom pages reflecting local interest

In the meantime I need some more N8 word plays - ideally all the tabs would have N8 puns. Send me what you can think of or check out the Onelook dictionary wild card look up
