David Winskill commented on Paul Soper's blog post Barking up the Wrong Tree again?
"Hi Paul Thanks for the post. Personally I don't like the large trees in front of the library (they block off the face of one of the finest sixties buildings in London) but, if one of them is to go then it should be for the right reason! If it…"

Southward Celebrates - but a desperately sad moment for Crouch End and Haringey

We [Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts] are very pleased to announce that ground works are now underway on our new home. The building will secure Mountview’s future. It will be in the heart of Peckham in south London, next to the Stirling Award-winning and much-loved library. Mountview will be home to 500 young people undertaking intensive professional vocational performing arts training. Alongside this we will be a community building offering opportunities to the broadest range of people to…See More

Watch Out - There's a Thief About

It looks like Crouch End is going through one of its occasional (and rare) crime waves. This morning my partner, on her way to work, spotted a car on Haringey Park that had been broken into - she reported it to the local SNT.Later, my next door neighbor knocked on my door (on Uplands Road) to tell me his bicycle had been stolen. He had been using a D-Lock attached to a metal hand rail by his front door to secure it: thieves had simply pulled the rail out of the ground and made off with the bike…See More

The Slow Death of Civic Society

In an excellent piece in G2 on Tuesday 9th May, Polly Toynbee wrote about how the public realm in the UK has been under sustained attack and has been gradually retreating to the point where civic pride is seen weird or an aberration from market orthodoxy. As she develops her theme, she gets to the heart of why so many people are…See More

Haringey Development Vehicle - Support the Case Against

Dear All, The 'Haringey Demolition Vehicle’ is in bulldozing mood and following recent Cabinet meetings and MPIM down in Cannes, more and more questions are being put in front of it to stop it careening through our communities.  A second formal letter has been sent to Claire Kober demanding actual public consultation and real time information on people and assets at risk, or else Judicial Review to halt it. We need money to keep doing this, as well as building the grass-roots campaign across…See More

Thank you very much for agreeing to help with the admin of OpinioN8

I have assigned you a role of "Apostle" on the site which gives you rights over discussions, photos, members and blogs, visible when you look at a detail page as "ADMIN OPTIONS" and the ability to edit. So if needed you should have sufficient control to take action.

This is a brief report on the first week of public operation of OpinioN8.

There are now 17 members (though three of them are me) and most of them look like Herman Munster carved out of a pumpkin. See the Hallowe'en event for more pumpkin pictures.
To update your profile picture log on, click on "my page" and then click on old pumpkin face.

Carol Horne has started an album for local photos and added some and I spotted an alien invasion

So far there is only one discussion but it should have some resonance with many. I would urge everyone to read the policy and write to Haringey .

Plans for the site in the short term include:
Inviting some new members - I have a number of email lists of local people and will send out invitations very soon
Adding some sub menus to the tabs across the page to home in on key information
Perhaps re-organising the front page slightly - it seems a bit runaway at the moment

Plans for the site in the medium term include:
Write a note explaining how to import photos from FlickR
Integrate with Facebook and Twitter
Add custom pages reflecting local interest

In the meantime I need some more N8 word plays - ideally all the tabs would have N8 puns. Send me what you can think of or check out the Onelook dictionary wild card look up
