Join the HAHAS - Hampstead and Highgate Angling Society

My pal Bob has asked me to put out a call to all old and budding anglers who might be interested in joining the Hampstead and Highgate Angling Society (HAHAS) .Back In July last year, Bob and some fishing mates launched the Society. The idea was to promote the benefits of fishing the ponds on Hampstead Heath as a peaceful, meditative pastime and to represent the anglers that use the ponds.Bob writes ....Hampstead Heath has five fish-able ponds but fishing has not been represented on the Heath…See More

Threat to Wildlife habitats along Kings Cross railway Line

Households abutting onto to the route of the King's Cross railway line have been receiving letters from Network Rail announcing that a it plans to " ... remove vegetation/trees from 6.5 meters (21 feet) either side of the tracks (from big tress to small bushes)".The reasons given are safety of track workers and to provide a safe and reliable railway. The total length of line involved is over nine miles so even a thin strip on either side of the tracks will involve the removal of an awful lot of…See More

"This is a very interesting document and reveals a lot about how the project will be managed and its ambitions. The bullet pointed list looks like it has been lifted straight from a pitching document for the work. It says nothing about seldom heard…"

Memories of Mountview

Mountview Theatre School is about to leave Haringey and set up in Peckham. It is so sad that an institution that has such strong links to Crouch End and Haringey has had to up sticks and move out. It was founded just after WWII by Peter Coxhead and, for many years, occupied ramshackle but much loved premises on Crouch Hill before the move to their current site in Wood Green. There is a good history here …See More

Thank you very much for agreeing to help with the admin of OpinioN8

I have assigned you a role of "Apostle" on the site which gives you rights over discussions, photos, members and blogs, visible when you look at a detail page as "ADMIN OPTIONS" and the ability to edit. So if needed you should have sufficient control to take action.

This is a brief report on the first week of public operation of OpinioN8.

There are now 17 members (though three of them are me) and most of them look like Herman Munster carved out of a pumpkin. See the Hallowe'en event for more pumpkin pictures.
To update your profile picture log on, click on "my page" and then click on old pumpkin face.

Carol Horne has started an album for local photos and added some and I spotted an alien invasion

So far there is only one discussion but it should have some resonance with many. I would urge everyone to read the policy and write to Haringey .

Plans for the site in the short term include:
Inviting some new members - I have a number of email lists of local people and will send out invitations very soon
Adding some sub menus to the tabs across the page to home in on key information
Perhaps re-organising the front page slightly - it seems a bit runaway at the moment

Plans for the site in the medium term include:
Write a note explaining how to import photos from FlickR
Integrate with Facebook and Twitter
Add custom pages reflecting local interest

In the meantime I need some more N8 word plays - ideally all the tabs would have N8 puns. Send me what you can think of or check out the Onelook dictionary wild card look up
