This little book gave me some startling insights into how to change my life back in 2004 and make steps towards happiness and fulfillment.  I dip into it from time to time to remind myself that life is not a battle but a game. The Game of Life and how to play it  Not local, not related but maybe useful.

I'm not remotely religious by the way - I took the concept of God/Jesus to be more spiritual...

Networked Neighbourhoods

Research shows that [community websites] serve to enhance the sense of belonging, democratic influence, neighbourliness and involvement in their area. Participants claim more positive attitudes towards public agencies where representatives of those agencies are engaging online. For their part councils are finding neighbourhood networks to be increasingly effective tools for engaging with residents and delivering services.

Crouch End Weather a quite bewildering array of statistics from a home weather station in London N8, and a webcam looking across a green space. So you can tell what the weather is like without opening the curtains

The Big Green Bookshop blog  I would link to the Big Green Bookshop's website but you'll learn more by reading their blog.  Their shop in Wood Green is a living gem and my heart will break if it goes.  Please book-loving N8ers get over to N22 and buy your next book from them.  Sod Amazon, enjoy a bookshop experience as it should be.

Nest is possibly the loveliest shop in all of Crouch End.  It sells beautiful yarns, pattern books, craft kits and lots of gorgeous buttons and hand-crafted items.  Newly opened down on Weston Park, Nest offers a range of knitting and craft courses and knitting groups. Amy is always happy to give you any advice on a tricky knitting problem and bakes delicious cakes for the knitting groups.  Even if you're not a knitter, go in and look at the wool, it's heaven.
