Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information

20130606 Festivals and shops galore

Ten of you have so far responded to the Ham and High survey, and 8 of the ten read it - Brian says in a comment "I read the Broadway Ham n High. I think it does a god job of holding the local council to account. ( God knows, someone needs to.) It champions the plight of local shopkeepers, raises the issue of the appalling state of our roads. It is unfortunate the Hornsey Gazette folded. All in all it's not bad. BB" - Brian, add a discussion and hold the council to account on OpinioN8. Thank you for your responses.
The school places debate becomes vaguely political and contains a literary referencewhich I confess I struggle to understand.
The shop scene is in its continuing state of flux - Andrew Thornton is leaving Budgen's Crouch End, and planning changes may change the use classes of many premises in unhappy ways. A dress maker and a shoe repairer from the past are revealed in a makeover. Also on the street scene are the flower tubs by the clock tower - could someone let us have a photo.
And another business possibly due for a change is BG Max - who might have the energy to take this on?
A very practical concern is highlighted by National Carer's Week
There is more than one festival coming up - The Crouch End Festival is in its second year, and starts today. Sonya has posted the AP and beyond festival as an event (any signed in member can post events). Don't miss the Art Picnic for Kids on June 9th or a raft of events at Hornsey Historical Society.
Also Arts and Culture related are the Planning Permission granted to the Arthouse and an important meeting about the future of Stroud Green and Harringay Library though I don't know how its future is expected to change.
Something huge on Hornsey High Street is a proposed 19,000 square foot Sainsbury's (more than twice the size of Budgen's) - don't miss the consultation taking place on several days, and on our events pages.
A couple of people have enjoyed simply being in Crouch End, in a pub, and in a shop.
Helena has contradicted herself quite a bit in her blog about Scarlet Rage - does she love or hate vintage? Sorry I missed last week's blog by Joanne about  The Big Community Switch, though i am sure it will come up again.
Forthcoming events include a tree walk on Saturday, and music in the Three Compasses
The Hornsey Depot consultations start on Monday, and Haringey's National Carer's Weekon Tuesday.
