sharing news and views from Crouch End and Hornsey
Hi folks,
A very obvious omission to the list of great independent traders in Crouch end is Two Wheels Good on Crouch Hill - amazing service: friendly, super helpful & efficient staff with overlapping though diverse areas of expertise. Pretty much all you could want from a local bike shop under one roof.
When Evans were set to open Two Wheels Good immediately re-implemented Sunday opening and longer hours in order to compete with the chain company. Happily, most regular customers that I am friends with seem to have stayed loyal but it is really hard to be an independent trader in the face of competition from a bigger, more ferocious chain. Where you benefit with TWG is one-to-one advice, help and service from experts who are all genuinely passionate about what they do. I really feel we should be supporting them and acknowledging them in this survey / competition would be a great start!
Cheers,
Anna

Maybe we should lobby for a category of "Shops that sell actually useful things" which could include bikes, and would cover Patel's the hardware store (not only do you get the goods, but helpful advice and a smile) and Bishops, and, borderline perhaps, the pet food/gardening/plants and flowers shop.
I have in the past had the benefit of TWG's advice and service and was grateful for it, in the days when I used to commute to the city by bike.
