I had a special request for pork on Tuesday. The whole family would be in for dinner, so we decided on a roast which we had missed at the weekend because of the hot weather.  I went to Morley's and asked for a joint for 5 people, which was duly cut to size. It's only recently I have taken over all the cooking at home, so last time I was in there I asked for advice on how to cook it, and this time I knew to out the oven on low at 3:30 for a 7:30 dinner. It worked perfectly, tender as could be and there was enough for cold the next day. I had been a bit worried about my blood pressure and cholesterol so I also made sure the crackling was perfect, and as no one else wanted any levels were soon restored to their appropriate stratospheric levels.

I have also bought Morley's frozen burgers as a stand by for the freezer, as well as the rest of their range of meats.

It is possible to buy meat more cheaply, but I find supermarket cuts are unreliable. A real butcher who can offer advice and produce a reliably good product is well worth a visit. One of the ways to judge Morley's is by the queues that form there on a Friday and Saturday - customers will rarely queue for poor service.

Mmm roast pork. I will try Morley's though I buy my meat for a special occasion from Freeman's.  We've had rib of beef from them two years running which is amazing with a port and stilton gravy.
To go with our pork we had apple sauce made form parents' in law apples and home made sage and onion stuffing with sage from the garden. I must learn how to make real gravy.
I meant to say for Christmas - not every day for two years. That would be ridiculous!
Hmm, I might run a masterclass in gravy making...I'll think of the easiest recipe and do a gravy post later.
