Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information

Is just a tad outside the N8 area, but might hold useful pointers for community ventures.

Westbury Avenue runs North-East from Turnpike Lane station across a fair size embankment. Bits of the bank have been landscaped , but generally it's a bit of a tip. Haringey , though, spotted an opportunity for improvement and have mobilised a team of local volunteers to do it up along the stretch on the left as you leave Turnpike Lane behind you, just after the highest point. They also have a Twitter account.  They've taken on quite a task, but have made a brave start with more volunteering opportunities coming up soon.  I applaud their determination and wish them the best of luck.

And by the by, something I read suggested that this embankment is part of the Palace Gates railway line, discontinued in the 1960s. This doesn't quite tie in with map I've seen on Wikipedia.

It did please me though to find this piece of DIY flashing nearby
