IN BRIEF...

After The Woods fantastic performance last week, this week we'll be enjoying the sounds of WondrWomN (@kidwondr) for Lockdown Music Live - Wednesday 7pm. We'll be announcing future acts soon.

We've heard of a few businesses that are struggling and we call on you to support local businesses where you can. Sable D'or in Muswell Hill put a call out last week and were overwhelmed with the community response. Owner Mohammed stated: "A few days ago I posted with great sadness that Sable D’or was at risk of closing. Today my feeling is different, today it is of gratitude, humility and hope." They're offering takeaway of fruit/veg and grocery items (including flour). The Launderette Cleanzone, on Colney Hatch Lane, are also finding the lockdown a real challenge. They are offering a collection and delivery service for the vulnerable, elderly and those that are self isolating. See below for more info.

The lockdown is a challenge for artists, musicians, makers and creatives across the board. If you know of any supporting initiatives let us know. In the meantime look out on Instagram for #artistsupportpledge works - it's an ingenious scheme with works selling for a max of £200 and a lot of local artists participating.

Volunteers needed at Alexandra Palace! Edible London are looking for volunteers to help out with their food package initiative they're running from Ally Pally. See below for more info.

A diary of our times. We'd love to know how you're thinking or feeling about the lockdown and virus.  How are you coping? We'd like to publish a series of musings in the autumn edition of Village Raw which will come out September/October this year. They can be words/poetry/images and you can remain anonymous if you wish. Email: hello@villageraw.com

Zoe Norfolk's cameras have photographed such luminaries as Usain Bolt Kofi Annan Antony Gormley Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood and now it's your chance in lockdown - see below for further info.

A FEW BITS AND BOBS

LOCKDOWN LIVE

Starting this week on Weds 22 April at 7pm with The Woods. The Woods is the music of Scottish producer, vocalist & multi-instrumental live-loop artist Johnny McFadzean. Ethereal vocals meld with intricate beats and textured harmonies weaving worlds of soulful neo-folk tinged electronica. The Woods featured in Issue 3 of Village Raw - you can read the interview online here. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day the broadcast will also feature tree imagery from our local woods. Tune in at @villageraw and @ohyeahthewoods

VOLUNTEER AT ALLY PALLY

The Great Hall at Ally Pally, the venue for so many defining-moment gigs now has a new crowd pleasing role. The community interest company Edible London, in partnership with Haringey Council, has transformed the space into a food distribution hub for the local community. This is the second site after starting at White Hart Lane stadium.

Surplus and excess food, donations from organisations and supermarkets are delivered in bulk each day. A team of volunteers sort through it all sending out hampers of household goods, packaged and tinned food, bread and milk, and fresh fruit and vegetables. Drivers from Haringey Council then distribute the hampers across the borough to those households identified as disadvantaged and/or vulnerable.

From setting up two weeks ago with a pilot run of 50, Ally Pally now sends out about 200 hampers each day. As operations scale up, Edible London are looking for more volunteers to help.

There is a sign-up process form https://forms.gle/Jd9hySVTYDsafqCZA
You will also need you to sign a waiver form https://pdf.ac/6FZTP6 and upload a copy of your ID Card/passport/driving licence to https://bit.ly/341yGbb

THE VIRTUAL WORKSHOP N4

Lisa Price is a local artist and runs a Creative Art Space called The WORKSHOP N4 which she started in 2017. Responding to present times Lisa has a new way of teaching her art classes. Lisa will be running her art club through a private Instagram page called @theworkshopathome, aimed at children 5-11 years. Although this is an ‘online’ art club it will give your children time away from the screen too!

Each week Lisa will upload a video to the Instagram page @theworkshopathome, setting out an Art Challenge. The video will focus on either an artist to inspire the lesson or a key word to open creative thinking and imagination. During each video Lisa will introduce the children to the theme and show them examples of how they can use different mediums, tips and tricks and how to explore that weeks theme in more detail.

As an addition to this Lisa will also be posting 4 mini challenges every week that will keep your children’s creativity going throughout the week. Instagram Art Club allows you as parents to have the freedom to work out your own schedules at home and can log into the challenges at any time and as many times as you want. It also gives children the opportunity to interact with each other and Lisa through Instagram, ask questions, post their artwork for other children to see and create an online art community, just like the community Lisa has worked hard to create at her studio.

Book your space and find out more here www.theworkshopn4.com/virtualartclub
