Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
We [Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts] are very pleased to announce that ground works are now underway on our new home.
The building will secure Mountview’s future. It will be in the heart of Peckham in south London, next to the Stirling Award-winning and much-loved library.
Mountview will be home to 500 young people undertaking intensive professional vocational performing arts training. Alongside this we will be a community building offering opportunities to the broadest range of people to undertake classes, recreation and leisure activities during the evenings, on weekends and throughout school holidays.
Our two theatres will host year-round public performances of classic and contemporary plays and musicals. And our studios, meeting and practice rooms and performance areas will be available to rent with favourable rates for community groups and charities.
On Tuesday Harriet Harman, longstanding MP for Camberwell and Peckham, and Cllr Peter John, Leader of Southwark Council, came on site to officially launch the building project. They were joined by local residents and some of our first year acting students – part of the cohort who will begin their third year of training when the building opens in autumn 2018.
We have come a long way on the journey to making this new home possible. Thank you for all your support so far. We hope you will continue to help us make our plans a reality and we look forward to keeping you up to date with future developments.
With best wishes and on behalf of
Stephen Jameson Sarah Preece
