Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
Just came back from night out with husband Andy at the new Italian restaurant Il Piccolo Diavolo, at the bottom of Crouch Hill. It was really great, and good value. Not had such good Italian food for ages, and really nice atmosphere. It's family-run and they make own pasta/cakes. Really recommend it, food was fab! Going to go back again soon!
Thank you Cara for the recommendation.
I'll probably sound a bit like Bruno Tonioni, when I say, an Italian restuarant with "Diavolo" in it's name has got to be hot, hot, hot!!!, but it sounds good, so we'll give it a try and provide further feedback.
I hope it's my spelling, but does such a flamboyant character really have onion in his name ?:-).
On the more general matter of Crouch End's 'eateries', surely CE could do with some real competition, stilo italiano, for Pizza Bella? Now, let it be known, I'm a loyal fan of Pappageno in Stroud Green (N4), and surely it or something similar would be great for N8?. Yes, it's manic; yes, it sometimes seems like a conveyor belt; and yes, surely there can't be a birthday in that part of N4 EVERY hour, but the staff are just incredibly hospitable, the food is exactly as it should be (rustico), and the wine list's quality-to-price ratio is pretty high.
PPS Whilst also not in N8, the trattoria more or less opposite the Whittington in N19, but not far, (don't ask me the name) is terrifico!
