Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
The grapevine, well, a barmaid, tells me that Henry Reader's new owners (the Dukes Head people), are now looking at an end November opening date for Small Beer. Apparently the forlorn frontage conceals industry and purpose behind the scenes. Expect everything changed within.
Meanwhile, it's all gone quiet at the Harringay Arms. This year's closure was followed by the news that Enterprise had taken it back in house. However, the squatters are still in, the metal shutters are still up, and the promised reincarnation as a craft beer "Bermondsey Pub Company" branded place is rumoured to be abandoned.
They had a planning app for new signage too (why is it still "pending decision"?).
Other belated news about Tottenham Lane's Hope and Anchor. There's a planning application in to convert everything upstairs to flats (there are some already), though retaining the bar. The last day for comments to planning is today. The worry is that the developer (is it still a Greene King pub?) will come back in a year, pronounce the pub unviable, and finish the job. The Hope was listed as an Asset of Community Value in 2016.
The Alex is, as posted last week, currently being patched up, rewired, and under new ownership.
