Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
The Hornsey Journal Building on Tottenham Lane has been standing empty for some time. There was a recent planning application giving prior notice of a change of use from Offices to Residential for 6 units which sailed through, easily getting officer approval.
Now there is another planning application for 161 Tottenham Lane on a very different scale, to be populated entirely by residents who do not own cars.
These extracts are taken from the Transport Statement
Block A will be set back from the road, positioned to the rear of the site, which will comprise 3
x 2 bedroom houses. Block B will replace the existing building fronting onto Tottenham Lane
and will provide 5 x 2 bedroom flats and 1 x 3 bedroom flat.
An element of office / retail floor space will be provided at ground floor level, as well as the
façade which will maintain the existing streetscape.
There will be no on-site parking provided and as such the Applicant is willing to enter into a
permit free agreement, secured via a Unilateral Undertaking, in order to ensure there will be no
impact arising from the development proposal in terms of overspill parking as residents will not
be eligible for permits to park.
1) the change of use from underused office to well occupied residential
2) the preservation of the existing facade
3) the photo voltaic cells generating electricity
4) the stated goal of making the development car free
but there would be elements open to question
1) The addition of another storey to the site
2) the density of the development
3) the addition of a terrace of houses at right angles to the existing roads
4) the additional pressure on local services
