Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information

These calls are becoming more frequent - don't fall for it.

They claim to be from Windows Technical Department in California. A voice with a heavy accent gives a very English name (Kevin Dawson this morning) and claims to have received messages from your computer on their international server, and to be able to help you rid it of various problems.

None of this is true. A number of giveaways.

1) It's all but impossible to get through to a support department, they certainly won't call you

2) if they had signals on their international server they'd know your computer was on, and not ask you to switch it on

3) your computer is probably working sort of OK anyway
