Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
The retrospective planning application for Middey's (used to be Spiazzo / Electricity Showrooms) has been granted on the basis that the Grade II building is already so badly compromised almost whatever is done internally can make no difference, and a wooden frame around the door makes that OK too - despite the weird proportions. The neon advertisements(?) will be subject to a separate planning application.
The future of the Square is recognised in the Middey's decision notice in reference to the outdoor seating "This would also accord with the wider master plan of the Town Hall Complex which envisages the square to be an active area." I haven't seen a note on the planning application as to how the refurbishment of this space will work, though drawings on the Middey's Facebook page suggest that the rather ugly decking planters might be re-used.
