sharing news and views from Crouch End and Hornsey
Apparently there is to be an election soon. This is Lynne Featherstone's take on it. I think Paddick may not be the only candidate for mayor.
There is now less than a month left until Londoners choose their Mayor and London Assembly members for the next four years. I’m more determined than ever to ensure that the Liberal Democrats get their best ever result in London.
Many of you will have seen me on the doorsteps of Hornsey and Wood Green recently. I – along with a dedicated team of volunteers – have been delivering my annual survey to thousands of homes in the constituency.
One of the regular comments I’ve heard about the London Liberal Democrats’ campaign is that people don’t really get to hear what we’re about until we are knocking on their door or putting a leaflet in their hand – but when we get our message across, people really like it.
Dawn Barnes, your local Liberal Democrat candidate for Haringey, has been joining me on the doorsteps. Dawn is a fantastic local campaigner, with some great ideas for how to improve our area.
Dawn has been publicly critical of Haringey’s botched fortnightly rubbish collections policy, and has slammed the Labour Council for their failure to consult residents. She has recently been leading the campaign acticities in my successful campaign for fairer funding for Haringey’s schools, and is actively campaigning against plans which could see a new waste plant near Pinkham Way.
Dawn also recently launched our ‘One Hour Bus Ticket’ campaign, which has been warmly received in Haringey. You can hop from one tube to another - so surely it makes sense to let us do the same with buses?
If you like the sound of these policies, why not help Dawn by displaying a poster in your garden or window? Just reply to this email and I will arrange for one to be sent out to you.
As ever, if you see me out and about, do stop me and say hello – I’m always happy to help with any problems or issues you want to raise.
Best wishes,
Lynne
PS – Lots of people have been asking about how many votes they will get in this election. You will receive 3 ballot papers – an Orange ballot for London Assembly members, a Yellow ballot for Dawn Barnes, and a Pink paper for your vote for London Mayor. Please cast your mayoral vote for Brian Paddick –the only candidate qualified to be London Police Commissioner. It’s a proportional system, so there are no wasted votes.
