Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information

As Old folks homes and youth centres and children's playcentres close and disturbances abound, the consultants have been busy faffing about with the odd pixel here and there.

New website design survey

Tuesday 16 August 2011

We have developed some new designs for the Haringey website, and would like your help testing these out.

To do this we have devised a short survey which asks a few simple questions about the current site and the proposed new design.

The survey should take no more than 5 minutes to complete.

The survey will run for 2 weeks (until Monday 29 August). Responses are completely anonymous and the survey is open to everyone.

If you have any more detailed comments and suggestions to make on the website, or the new design, please email the Web Communications Team on content@haringey.gov.uk

The website redesign project has been under way for a number of months now, and this phase of user testing was ready to go and due to start on Monday 9 August. Because of recent events we decided to postpone the testing for a week. The council has done a lot of work, and still is, to help residents affected by the rioters and this will go on for many months to come. In the meantime, “business as usual” work goes on and improving online services to residents is just one such activity.

We have so far had over 150 responses to the tests which are part of this work, which is a very good completion rate and has provided much valuable feedback. Throughout the design process we have been very conscious of keeping costs down so have done as much of the work in house as possible. For example the new website design was created by our own Design and Web Communications Teams (not by consultants) and the survey tool we used cost just $9.

Mine was one of those 150 responses. Thank you for this additional information.

Please don't change the distinctive Haringey website look - the alternative design I saw in the tests is just like loads of other local authorities. If you must change something then keep the look but change the navigation.

When you do change please make sure that your users (especially me) know why you are doing it. I'd want to see at least a 50% improvement in usability to justify a change.
