Latest news

Since our last meeting, the steering group have all been reflecting on what the word community means? What size of area could be defined as a community? We all feel that for most people, their community is right close to home or where they work and that Haringey is too large to be an effective single community. This is a point that people have made even before we held the first meeting.

We believe that a number of Community Circles would be more effective than one large circle. These could, for example, be based on Wards in Haringey. Representatives of these circles would meet up occasionally (quarterly?) to share ideas and if needed resources.

As the steering group all live in Crouch End, we propose leading a Crouch End/Hornsey Circle. We hope at our next meeting that people will step forward to lead Circles in other areas - eg Tottenham, Stroud Green etc.

We have also reflected on the views that our former name, Haringey Community Council, does lead to confusion with the existing Council and suggest that the title Haringey Community Circles would be better.

The proposed working name Haringey Community Circles will be used on the fundraising calendar that is being produced in Crouch End and needs to go to print before the next meeting.

Please respond to this email with your Full Name to let us know you are coming to the next meeting.

We very much look forward to hearing views on these suggestions and hearing progress on the actions agreed at the last meeting.
A summary of topics is shown below, the larger the word, the more frequently it came up.

It is suggested that the next meeting runs on Wednesday October 12 from 6.30 - 8.15pm at the Tottenham Chances Club,

This is to be followed by a banquet to celebrate the positive energy of our newly forming Community Circles.
Everyone is asked to bring a dish they love for sharing.
As the Tottenham Chances community club survives on its bar income, so we'd ask everyone to buy their drinks there!

We also hope that there will be live music!!!

Please circulate this note as far as you can so that we can reach out to as wider a group across the whole of Haringey.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 12th.

Warm Wishes
