Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information

There doesn't seem to be anything on the wires about today's closure of The Alex. Maybe I missed it amongst the general hysteria of Crouch End's facebook sites.

Apparently the landlord and Enterprise Inns have different views on the future of the pub. Outcome: sudden closure, staff out of work with just hour's notice.

Will it re-open? Dunno. There was a tweet which attempted a rosier announcement about 'refurbishment', but I can't find it now.

It may not have been a tweet but a Facebook post, and it is optimistic about the future of the pub.

The Alex is closing tomorrow for refurbishment. Again, I know, but the building is really in need of some tlc.

We wanted to thank everyone who has supported the pub in this interim period. Unfortunately we have decided we won't be accepting the lease deal we have been offered. It isn't an appropriate deal for our approach to running pubs. Therefore when it reopens, in a few weeks time, it will be with new owners who we wish the best of luck to.

It was fun while it lasted and we loved meeting so many brilliant crouch enders.

Thank you again for all your support,

Laura and Kirk

I walked by yesterday and it looked a bit open. All the association football matches advertised in the window seem to be up to date.

Yup, new (temporary?) tenants are in.

Mr Mani Pubco is canvassing local opinion on what to do with it -

The scaffolding is up and the builders are in at the Alex (again). Looks like the owner, EI Group (formerly Enterprise Inns), is still seeking a tenant - details here.  Annual rent £68,000 if you are interested.

According to their new social media accounts (https://www.facebook.com/PrincessAlexandraN8/  & https://twitter.com/PrincessAlexN8 ) it's about to become 'Princess Alexandra' once again. Opens June 29th. There's a picture too -
