Earl Haig - has never been over the top, but Antic are now beating a retreat

I have it from a usually unreliable source that the Earl Haig has been sold by Antic the pub chain that has been running it in the recent past. The identity if the new owner is apparently a secret. My source regards this as being sinister. It is true that previous attempts have been made to develop the site as dwelling places, some of which are rather beautifully documented on this site.

Just at present the building is not listed, either locally or nationally, nor is it an asset of community value. So another block of flats seems quite likely. To quote from the National Policy Planning Framework "more dwelling places, of course, you don't need permission, just get on with it" and from the Mayor's office "do it, I've got targets to meet". Of course, this is pure speculation on my part, and all may be well with the building having a secure future as a pub.

That there may be some truth in this rumour we can perhaps glean from estate agents Fleurets webiste from a few weeks ago when the asking price  was £1,000,000.

There is an ad for "New Letting - Bar/Former Social Club, Crouch End, N8" the files for which are in a folder dated 2018-11. Thanks also to Facebook for this information

If true a big loss for me. Always loved the place as a good alternative to some boring pubs we do have in N8. And, some of the entertainment was great fun. It will be sadly missed if true.

So, anyone heard anything yet? The new owners are still unknown and it appears they're still advertising it for rent. Could be a pub, quite possibly won't. A nursery then? Perhaps a mosque (just like the constitutional hall on Hornsey High St, or the old church hall in Crouch End on Edison Rd)? Or a nightclub?
What else could it be?
I saw a group of people looking around the other day . they seemed very young to me . perhaps they've put the infants in charge of the nursery.

Is today Sunday 6 Jan the last day of Earl Haig Hall ? I'd better visit and show my respect !
