Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
I suppose everyone in Crouch End knows what dinner in Banners is like. Except perhaps me. I had a bad experience there about 20 years ago and haven't been in since. Until tonight. The bad experience was - as we walked past one evening the sandwich board outside was advertising a dish which had just become a favourite for my daughter. Seeking to please her we went in, sat down and all carefully chose from the menu. We ordered only to discover that the favourite from the board was lunchtime only so she couldn't have it. Poor little thing was distraught, so we left in a huff and haven't been back since until tonight.
It's OK. The waitress laughed at my jokes, which family and friends seldom do, nowadays. The meals, curried goat, seabass and jerk chicken burger were generous portions and proper tasty. The Erdinger wheat beer, the Belgian Slag lager and a coke were satisfactory drinks (there are also lots of cocktails available, and a wine list).
At £53.70 for three, plus a tip I couldn't do it every night, but might again within 20 years.
