Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information

At least one subset of society is carrying on business as usual during the crisis. Don't be taken in.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) doorstep scam

Be aware that opportunists and criminals can take advantage of older people who are self-isolating during this period of Coronavirus outbreak.

There are reports of people calling door to door claiming to be carrying out Coronavirus testing at your home for you on behalf of NHS or you GP.

NHS teams are NOT conducting any door to door testing for the Coronavirus - these are thieves trying to get into your home.

If anyone knocks on your door claiming to be conducting the tests please call the police.

Anyone being offered "kindness" by cold callers by way of running errands, collecting prescriptions and doing shopping should not accept services from strangers who may ask for cash up front, a credit card and its PIN, or gain trust simply to carry out a more elaborate scam.

Important Note: Staff from Haringey Reach and Connect are posting genuine calling cards through the doors of people in Haringey who are over 50. If you respond to a calling card and request support, our Community Connectors will keep their distance, WILL NOT ask to enter your home and WILL NOT ask you for cash. They will be carrying ID cards and will provide you with their full name and contact number. You can call us on 020 3196 1905 if you have any concerns.
