Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
Our local LibDem Councillors have issued a call to consult on a proposed new local school. It is signed by Councillor Winskill whose signature might well stand a metaphor for modern political policy making. You can see the signature at the foot of this page. While, at first glance it is a very impressive piece of handwriting starting off with well formed letters and some extravagant flourishes, it does tail off somewhat, and not all the i's are crossed.
The Councillor is quite careful about some of the local issues involved. We have a whole discussion category dedicated to the topic of Ashmount School, and the site might be a good place for a school, but is the building a '60s classic or a white elephant. Councillors are "concerned" about " . . . .a shortage of primary school places" but evidence either way is hard to come by. And nothing is said of the political questions underling free schools Read this Ashmount article for a clue as the scale of profits achieved by its owners
None of which detracts from the opportunity to respond to the consultation. Links, dates and times below.
A consultation for a new school has been launched - and it's a great opportunity to press for it to be located at the old Ashmount School site.
The proposed new school will be called Whitehall Park School, and by 2020 will have a capacity of 392 pupils of primary school age.
The school is scheduled to open in 2014, and you can respond to the consultation on line here.
Or, you can go along to one of the drop-in sessions at Hornsey Lane Estate Community Centre, Hazellville Road, London N19 3YJ:
- Weds 2nd October 7-9pm
- Thursday 10th October 2-4pm
Any new school will have a big impact upon the local community, so I'd encourage all local residents to get involved in the consultation.
Your local councillors are concerned that the closure of the old Ashmount school could lead to a shortage of primary school places in the East of Crouch End. I'd encourage you to respond to the consultation
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
