Scenario - a single mother with 2 children, 15 and 19, has been housed in a series of temporary accommodation provided by h4h for 20 years. Oldest son has had to move in with grandmother who lives in 2 bed maisonette, he sleeps on sofa. Mother works as carer (low paid, zero hours contract). Following long period of sickness she returned to work, instead of adjusting housing benefit entitlement it was treated as a new claim resulting in arrears. Today mother got a call from landlord who said advisor from h4h who had been assigned to the tenant had called him to say h4h will clear the arrears if he signs tenant up for further 2 years and increases the rent. As she cannot afford current rent can anyone tell me the reasoning behind this?
