Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information

The 163 Tottenham Lane project rumbles on, unconcerned with the passing of time, striving for greater things... people may have seen a new planning application, this under a 'section 73' to vary the agreed development - HGY/2018/1874.

In the original scheme a block of flats would rise on the site (between the cinemas), with Kwik Fit taking the ground floor/basement space.

Not any longer. It appears Kwik Fit have been driven off, and someone called 'PureGym' ("the UK's largest gym operator" it says) are in pole position to take a swing at the development (did MEB Motors not get a chance to bid?). They propose a 24 hour 365 days a year operation (why? who uses a gym at 3 in the morning?). Tires me out thinking of it.

And how is the gym market in Crouch End? There seems quite a few about - the YMCA one is immediately across the road, and this seems a direct competitor.

Perhaps the KwikFit (sounds a bit like a gym) business plan depends on motor vehicles which the Liveable Neighbourhoods may very well be reducing considerably. MEB may be better off in Wood Green or wherever.

Apparently today was MEB's last day of trading.
