Women stabbed in north London needle attacks

Two women have been stabbed in suspected hypodermic needle attacks in north London.

On the morning of 18 November a woman, 24, was stabbed at a bus stop in Green Lanes by a man who then fled.

In an attack thought to be linked, another woman, 29, was stabbed in Ferme Park Road, Crouch End, on 23 November.

The victims were only slightly hurt but must undergo a series of medical tests to make sure they have not picked up HIV or any other infections.

The suspect is said to be of Mediterranean appearance and 6ft tall with dark hair. He wore a baseball cap and a dark jacket.

Det Con Ben Jefferd, who is leading the investigation, said: "The man committing these offences loiters at bus stops for some time before appearing to select a victim and attacking them.

"These assaults obviously cause great distress to the victims in the weeks after, while they await crucial test results.

"I ask anyone with information that could help us locate this man to come forward as soon as possible."

I wouldn't have thought trying to dissuade someone wielding a hypodermic from attacking people was a particularly sensible course of action, to be honest.  The thought of someone happily reading OpinioN8 knowing the perpetrator is also rather an odd one.

Has the maniac been caught yet?

Additional police comment:

Detective Chief Inspector Beverly Hawes, at Tottenham police station, said: "Whilst incidents like this are extremely rare we do ask people in the Haringey area to remain vigilant."

Anyone with information or who knows the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to contact the incident room at Tottenham CID on 07785 381 215 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

a guy fitting this description hangs around the bus stop outside Tesco and asks everyone for money claiming to have lost his oyster card - he's well known to locals as he has been using the same story for months - the strange thing is he is well dressed and looks about 30 but is obviously unwell - which becomes obvious when he speaks to you - he is quite aggressive
