Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information

The Greater London Authority with Boris Johnson as mayor, is currently promoting a scheme called the Pocket Parks Programme which has money available to fund projects. Its aim is to increase the number of small parks in London to make London a lovelier place. You can read the prospectus here

I picked these words out of the blurb:

"The Pocket Parks fund cannot be used to upgrade or restore existing spaces that are in a poor state simply due to lack of maintenance. The fund aims to change the use of an underused space. This can include spaces with existing parks or green spaces provided the space is currently of limited value or function."

Haringey apparently tried something similar recently - some detail of the Parks and Open Spaces Small Grants Scheme application process is here , but not the results.

There has been published a map which rather surprisingly shows that Crouch End is an area of deficiency in Access to Local , Small and Pocket Parks - (notice the red shading) so perhaps there is scope to do something about this within N8. (See below for some suggestions)

A few spots come to mind immediately

1) the area by the fountain beside the library

2)the small park like area on the corner of Harold Road and Tottenham Lane (near the police station)  which has has already had some work done to it

3) The grassed area in front of the town hall

Thanks to Richard McKeever for bringing this to my attention

If you think this a good idea, or you know of other potential pocket parks, reply here or sendOpinioN8 and email

I've just noriced the first application has to be in by Jan 7th so we need to get a wiggle on.

Have a look at this ambitious and very professionally produced proposal from Parkside Malvern Residents Association in Wood Green. Hope they are succesful with the bid.

(Thanks to Richard)

Hi there, I'm a local journalist writing a piece about the Wood Green proposal. May I ask your thoughts on it and the scheme?
