Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
There's something slightly awry somewhere. I believe that the deal Haringey has struck with FEC is a bad one for the Town Hall, for the people of Crouch End and for the Public Realm. But it has been done and we should move on and make the best of it we can.
But, I've just seen this tweet from Piers Read
Great piece about
@HTH_CrouchEnd in @LondonCallingUK saying @HTHArtsCentre “is a jewel waiting to be polished” . Spot on. https://www.londoncalling.com/features/a-jewel-waiting-to-be-polished …
which has prompted me to read this article which is quite a way off 'spot on'.
Now does Piers really believe this is a great article?
The article states
" . . . the Grade II* listed building (the star stands for ‘at risk’ meaning lots of safety surveys before refurbishment can start) . . . " No it doesn't - the * is an extra accolade accorded to very few buildings. 'At risk" is a completely independent assessment.
"Over the years, there were plenty of bids from investors trying to get there hands on the Grade II* listed building (the star stands for ‘at risk’ meaning lots of safety surveys before refurbishment can start) to developed the usual – luxury flats, an apartHotel, a complete interior gutting. Yet, luckily, the council of Haringey refused all of them, making community access a condition for any future biddings." Well actually, luxury flats, an apartHotel, a complete interior gutting are exactly what is just about to happen, and there will be no future biddings, the deal has been done.
"London Calling got an exclusive tour . . . " I don't think so - any body with two ha'pennies to rub together or an ounce of cultural credibility is getting this tour. That's how publicity works. Let's hope the other tourists take more careful notes.
