Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information

"We actually make stuff!" – Brian Dossett, MD of DW.

EARLIER this month, Councillor Bob Hare and I were kindly given an impromptu guided tour of a wood machining factory in north Tottenham by its owner and managing director, Brian Dosset. The old family firm is under threat from Haringey Council.

The Council's so-called “High Road West” scheme would place another one billion pounds worth of regeneration business with a single company: the same developer (Lendlease) linked to the Council via the HDV. The latter, dubbed the Two Billion Pound Gamble.

The Peacock Industrial Estate would be demolished.

This features more traditional commerce that appears not now to be favoured by Haringey New Labour. Manufacturing businesses—some, long established—would give way to service industry, retail and “leisure”. One suspects that the kind of business the Labour-run Council have in mind, is serving coffee etc. to football fans at the neighbouring new stadium, owned by Tottenham Hotspur Ltd.

The attached PDF (below) describes one of the businesses on the site that is threatened, DW General Wood Machinists Ltd.
