Connecting Crouch End and Hornsey with news, views and information
Lib Dem councillors have forced a review of controversial plans by Haringey's Labour Cabinet to privatise £2bn of public property. On 3rd July the Labour Cabinet agreed to put the property; including council homes, a library, civic building and commercial units. into a company jointly owned with developers called the Haringey Development Vehicle (HDV).
The Lib Dems believe the HDV proposals are too risky, particularly in the context of Brexit and no decision on Crossrail 2, and should not go ahead. We also believe the deal does not offer enough protections for tenants and leaseholders and could put local small businesses at risk. That is why we have called for a review and why are asking for there to be a rethink.
A meeting of Haringey’s Scrutiny Committee will now be held on Monday (17th) night to consider our request for there to be a vote of all councillors on the HDV at a Full Council meeting. The meeting will be at 6pm at the Civic Centre in Wood Green, members of the public can attend the meeting but spaces are likely to be limited.
